Abstract

The work reported in this dissertation is an analysis of the possibilities and challenges arising from the use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) techniques in the context of the inspection and maintenance of reinforced concrete works of art. The work is divided into three fundamental components:

1) Establishment of inspection methodologies for support obtaining information relevant to geometric modeling and additional information. The techniques include the use of laser scanner fixed and laser scanner portable, use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and 360º photos. Of course, other more current methodologies such as extraction of carts, detection of steel (magnetic and georadar methods), carbonation analysis, thermographic imaging, sclerometer analysis, etc.;

2) Establishment of modeling methodologies in BIM software, taking into account the orientation of the model for maintenance management. Processes and methodologies for modeling information and geometry are defined, with particular emphasis on the need to create specific objects for inclusion of damage information and sample extraction, among others. The model is also capable of cumulative registration of information and permission of comparative analysis between data from consecutive inspections;

3) Application to case study of reinforced concrete bridge located in Gerês.
