Why did you choose the BIM A+?
After gaining substantial experience in top architecture firms in Brazil, I felt the pull to live and work abroad, which led me to search for study opportunities in Europe. I wanted to broaden my skills in architectural design and project coordination by gaining complementary competencies. BIM was an obvious choice. Among the available options, BIM A+ stood out as it would allow me to learn from highly qualified professors across three renowned universities, experience life in two different countries, and follow a concise and structured program. Additionally, the scholarships available were key in making my dream of studying abroad a reality.
What did you enjoy the most about your programme?
The BIM A+ program provided a highly international environment, with a diverse group of students from various countries, professional backgrounds, and levels of experience. This diversity enriched the learning experience. Moreover, the program’s strong connections to the AEC industry facilitated valuable networking opportunities and access to professional positions. Beyond the academic content, the friendships I built with professors and fellow students are something I cherish and will carry with me throughout my life.
How has your degree helped you in your career?
The BIM A+ program helped me develop a robust set of competencies and opened doors to opportunities that I wouldn’t have had access to otherwise. My CV became much more attractive in competitive global markets, and I now approach architectural challenges with greater efficiency and confidence. It has also strengthened my ability to coordinate and manage complex projects and teams, allowing me to deliver more consistent and innovative design solutions.
What is your top piece of advice for prospective students?
Choose a thesis topic that genuinely excites you. Despite the challenges, the thesis period was one of the most rewarding times of my life—an opportunity to learn, grow, and feel deeply motivated by my work. Also, build connections with your peers. Much of the learning comes from the exchange of ideas and experiences with your fellow students. The friends you make during the program often become key contributors to your professional journey, as has been the case for me.
What have you been up to since graduating from the BIM A+?
After graduation, in 2020, I returned to my previous job at Jacobsen Arquitetura, getting involved in several high end residential international projects. From 2021 up to 2022, i worked as a researcher at the University of Minho, focusing on the BIM field. Currently, I am an associate overseas-qualified architect at Foster and Partners in the UK.
