Teaching: BIM, digital design, process modelling, engineering communication and collaboration. He is a guest professor delivering module on BIM Execution planning and project protocols at Dublin Institute of Technology and local coordinator/mentor at Stanford PBL.

Research: project information management, BIM lifecycle, smart asset management, digitisation BPR, concurrent and generative design, information and systems theory. He has published several papers on BIM, his BIM Framework was the most downloaded paper for five years at respective journal.

Practise: cross-disciplinary experience in BIM technology transfer and real-world pilot BIM projects that demonstrate best practises to investors, AEC practitioners, and contractors – with proven added value. He is the international consultant for BIM implementation and BIM FM – CAFM/CSMM integration.

Management/memberships: department vice head, head of chair, EU research projects’ lead researcher and technical coordinator, member of IEEE, CIB designated contact, TC for BIM standardisation, certified structural engineer, LEED professional, and RICS Certified BIM Manager (one of the 45 worldwide).

Member of the Institute for sustainability and Innovation in Structural Engineering R&D unit with 6 years of experience in metaphysical behaviour of cement-based materials and structural analysis of concrete structures. During his academic career, he has co-organized the first Portuguese conference In Building Information Modelling held on the University of Minho in 2016. He has also participated as a trainer in the organization of three training activities in Building Information Modelling in 2014, 2016 and 2017 in held in the Portuguese Engineers Association with editions in Lisbon, Porto and Braga. Founder of Zeta Engineers where performed structural designs in BIM and specialized consultancy services in structural engineering, including project review/checking and advanced structural analysis.

He is a founding member and coordinator of the Advanced Ceramics R&D Lab (Guimarães). Visiting student of Design and Computation Group, MIT (2012). Holds a Master in Architectural Culture Modern and Contemporary by the University of Lisbon (2009), with the dissertation Project, Computing and Manufacturing: for the integration of digital technologies in Architecture. Graduated in Architecture by the University of Porto (2000). His research is centred on the use of digital tools in architecture, encompassing the development of generative and analytical computational models and digital fabrication in architectural design processes, namely the implementation and control of additive manufacturing techniques.

Žiga Turk

Professor in Construction Informatics and Documentation and Vice-Dean at the Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering at the University of Ljubljana. Originally a structural engineer, he has M.Sc. in computer science and PhD in technical sciences.

His academic interests include construction informatics, construction information technology, computer integrated construction, theoretical basis of process and product modelling and building information management (BIM), engineering communication and the related aspects of technology and philosophy. He studies modern forms of learning, knowledge transfer, internet science and responsible researching. He published over 40 papers in scientific journals, delivered 20 keynote and invited lectures and over 120 reviewed conference papers. He had an important role in eight EU framework projects. He is the founding editor of international scientific journal ITcon, Associate Editor of Automation in Construction and editorial board of a few other international journals. In his public duties he was twice minister in the Government of Slovenia, Secretary General of the Reflection Group on the Future of Europe at the European Council, carried out an interim evaluation of Framework 7 and Horizon 2020 Programme and chaired a High Level Group about the future of European academic networking (GEANT).

Vlatko Bosiljkov

Head of chair of materials and structures, has a B.Sc. (1999) from University of Belgrade, Faculty for Civil engineering in Belgrade, M.Sc. (1996) and Ph.D. (2000) at the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of civil and geodetic engineering. He worked as researcher at Faculty of civil and geodetic engineering in Ljubljana; He has been a visiting researcher at University of Wales, UK, at University of Colorado, U.S.A. and between years 2002 to 2017 several times at University of Newcastle, Australia.

Pietro Crespi

He was visiting lecturer on “Seismic risk assessment of existing highway bridges” at the St. Petersburg Polytechnic (2015). Since 2013, he is Director/Deputy director of 3 specializing masters on “Design of RC structures”, “Seismic Design of Structures for Sustainable Buildings” and “BIM Manager”. He is (Co-)Supervisor of 4 PhD thesis, 9 MSc thesis and several specialising master theses. He is consultant and technical auditor of Material Testing Laboratory of PoliMi where he supervised the testing activities on post-installed anchors for use in concrete/masonry for the ETA. Co-author of more than 80 papers in international journals and conference proceedings, his research topics are: mechanical behaviour of carbon and stainless reinforcing steel for RC structures; static and seismic behaviour of anchors for concrete/masonry; structural rehabilitation of existing buildings; wind loading effects on high rise buildings; seismic behaviour of bridges.

She is responsible for the implementation of the Digital Skills in the Master degree of the School, coordinator and part of the Scientific Committee of the Labora Laboratory (Fisical and Virtual Modelling laboratory of the athenaeum). She has experimented with operational and methodological application in national context, mainly related with tangible and intangible case study, focusing on the relationship between survey, representation in the field of digital heritage and BIM environments.
She has worked in several public context dedicated to modelling from the territorial scale to construction scale to finalize BIM and Virtual Environments. She has held conferences, curated monographs and several papers on different topics: modelling, BIM, HBIM, Virtual environments and representation. The passion for modelling and new technologies got him to attend a specializing master about the use of BIM and GIS in architecture and engineering. The final result of this course was a work entitled H-BIM: a contribution to the drafting of guidelines for the recovery of historic buildings – a case study. In 2018, he started working as BIM consultant, both modelling at different scales and helping those who are switching from the traditional design process to the BIM method. In 2019, he started his PhD studies at PoliMi and the research topic is about BIM/GIS integration for infrastructure asset management. He was a speaker at “3D GeoInfo 2020 and BIM-GIS Integration Workshop”.

Paulo B. Lourenço

Full professor and head of the Structural Group at University of Minho. Visiting scholar at University of California San Diego in 2017. She has been lecturer in the courses of structural mechanics, structural rehabilitation and structural design at Politecnico di Milano. Since her graduation thesis, she focused her interest on computational mechanics and modelling of historical masonry buildings. With a team of ABC department from Polimi, she took part in the restoration project of the Basilica of Collemaggio, struck by 2009 L’Aquila earthquake. In 2014, she collaborated as research fellow at Politecnico di Milano, dealing with structural plasticity and masonry structures. She is concluding her PhD thesis about a new approach to model cracking phenomena in masonry material.

Helder Sousa

Post-doctorate researcher at the School of Engineering of the University of Minho. PhD in Civil Engineering by the University of Minho, obtained in 2013, with the thesis Methodology for safety evaluation of existing timber elements. His research domains include safety assessment of existing structures through non-destructive methods and reliability analysis, as well as infrastructure management through prediction models.

Born 1966 in Trbovlje, Slovenia received his PhD degree from the Faculty for Civil in Geodetic Engineering Ljubljana for his work on fuzzy logic approach to modelling uncertainties in construction project management. In the same year she started to work at the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering, at first as administrative help and proofreader of English and German professional papers and translator of daily correspondence in foreign languages.
